  • Activator® and Urban Poling walking techniques

    Understand the principles and benefits of pole walking as an effective form of rehabilitation and fitness for individuals with a variety of diagnosis - from ortho to neuro.  Learn how to teach the techniques, provide various types of cuing based on individual learning styles, and discuss how to determine the appropriate technique for each individual.  
  • ACTIVATOR® Poles vs Other Devices

    Learn the ergonomic benefits of Activator® Poles over other passive assistive devices.  Designed by an Occupational Therapist and Gerontologist to have added safety and comfort features over other poles on the market.  Deemed by clients as an ability tool vs disability device.  
  • Treatment Modalities and Exercises

    Learn how the Activator® Poles will change your clinical practice by adding innovative exercise ideas to your treatment sessions.  The course provides many exercise examples and demonstrations to help improve functional movements for clients with a variety of diagnosis:  ortho injuries, PD, MS, Stroke, Vestibular, to name a few.
Instructor

Dr. Joy A Cochran PT, DPT

Dr. Joy A Cochran is a physical therapist passionate about treating the neurologic and older adult populations. She feels there is a disconnect between the current healthcare system and discharge to evidence-based fitness programs / re-integration back into the community. Joy graduated with her Doctor of Physical Therapy from Northern Illinois University in 2016. She is a Credentialed Balance and Falls Professional and Certified Exercise Expert for the Aging Adult (CEEAA) through the Academy of Geriatric Physical Therapy of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA), a Master Trainer for Urban Poling, and also holds certifications specific to treating Parkinson's Disease - PWR! Moves, Rock Steady Boxing (RSB), and LSVT BIG. Joy is experienced in treating complex conditions, such as; Parkinson's Disease (PD), Multiple Sclerosis (MS), Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), stroke, Spinal Cord Injury (SCI), amputees, balance, and vestibular.
